National Key Cluster Competition launched in Poland

Poland reaffirmed its commitment to developing business clusters with a new call for proposals to establish National Key Clusters. This call was published by the Polish Ministry of Economy working in conjunction with the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development. Some PLN 40 million (approximately EUR 10 million) have been budgeted for this purpose.

Some PLN 40 million (approximately EUR 10 million) have been budgeted for this purpose.

The National Key Cluster is concept used to denote a highly competitive cluster of major importance for national economy. National Key Clusters are identified at the national level and selected through open competition. The formal criteria for selection include:

• cluster reliability
• history of the cluster’s performance
• strategy and performance plan
• critical mass
• geographic concentration.

Substantive criteria included:

• quality of management
• coordinator’s performance
• resources
• cluster recognition
• economic potential
• export potential
• potential for innovation
• innovativeness and knowledge transfer
• level of cooperation in the cluster
• level of cluster’s internationalisation
• importance for the national economy
• existence of strategic documents.

Gaining the status of the National Key Cluster can be very beneficial for each participating network. Each cluster selected gains access to the Activity 2.3.3 “Internationalisation of National Key Clusters” from the Programme “Intelligent Development.” This project includes PLN 40 million to support projects aiming at increasing innovation and competitiveness of cluster enterprises operating on international markets.

The InterCom Project focuses on internationalisation and commercialisation of Polish and Lithuanian business clusters. Several of our participating Polish clusters have applied to become National Key Clusters.
